GIHA TAKES HOCKEY TO THE PEOPLE

The 5 June 2004 saw the 'Brightwater Commans', in Randburg, graced with enthusuastic faces as GIHA hosted its
first outreach for 2004. Inline Hockey players, many SA national players, from all over Guateng attended the event to help spread the
news that Inline hockey is back in full force and ready suck in any interested person.1-on-1's, 4-on-4's and shooting competitions kept spectators and volunteers enthrilled for most of the day. "I will buy you a par of skates and you can join the club, but we have to go now", said one of the mothers to her son as he was dragged away from the game with his friends. With interest like this, it is just a matter of time before Inline hockey surpasses soccer as the countries most popular sport! :) Be sure to check out the gallery for more pictures of the event. |

The team formally known as the Volvo Blue Jackets of Pretoria have landed a new sponsor. Now known as the Texecom Tornados, they will soon be dressed for the occasion and with a name like Tornados, will be the team to create the storm in the Gauteng Inline Hockey Association Senior League. Texecom have kindly sponsored new jerseys, pants, pucks and star awards for their games. Texecom wish the Tornados all the best for the 2004 league!

WITBANK'S LATEST DEVELOPMENT

Well here it is, the first photos
of the newest and best rink in South Africa. These here ladies and
gentlemen are the first look at Witbanks' newest rink. As you can
see the rumours you heard about the rink are true... it is going to
be amazing. When complete (hopefully by June) the rink will be as follows: a full size rink (60mx30m), full high impact perspex boards and glass (the old boards and glass from Krugersdorp), 4 change rooms (if budget allows), a club house with spectator toilets, full lighting (stadium type at the moment) |
and if they can get the funds
together a full roof over the entire rink (which would then change
the lighting to something similar to the ice rinks). There will also
be ample parking for all spectators, players and all those fancy
VIP's at nationals this year. I think a big congratulations goes out to Mr Deon Botha for funding what I think will turn the face of South African Hockey around completely. Thanks, From all of us at GIHA !!!! |
